Reflexes should be tested by using a reflex hammer if neurological involvement is suspected. The patient should be seated with their feet flat on the ground. Make sure that the limb being tested is relaxed. The examiner looks for absence or weakness of reflexes when performing these tests. Always compare both sides (Magee 2007).
